EnerQuality “extends our table” to include Canada’s largest food rescue charity providing emergency relief during COVID-19
COVID-19 reminds us about what is most important. Our relationships with each other are key. Healthy, sustainable homes and communities allow us to shelter-in-place comfortably. Healthy, nutritious food is central to how we relate to each other. When we ‘break bread’ and share meals with our family, friends and colleagues, we get both energy, sustenance and comfort.
That’s why we’re excited to announce a new Charitable Partner for this year’s EQ Awards Gala: Second Harvest [link]. As Canada’s largest food rescue charity, Second Harvest helps to recover food from across the supply chain to benefit those most vulnerable. Now more than ever, there is a need for nutritious food, as demand has increased substantially because of COVID-19.
“Last spring, we planned to participate in Second Harvest’s Food Rescue program by diverting surplus food from the EQ Awards Gala to local social service agencies,” says Rose Benedetto, Managing Director, EnerQuality. “When COVID-19 hit, and we were forced to reschedule our event, it was an opportunity to make an even greater difference. We see this Charitable Partnership as a way to raise awareness and expand capacity to re-direct surplus food to communities in need, while at the same time fighting climate change by keeping massive amounts of surplus food out of landfill.”
Second Harvest recovers surplus food and redistributes it to food banks, women’s shelters, and youth programs, and other agencies while averting powerful climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere.
Registration for the EQ Awards is now open on the EnerQuality Awards Page. With the help of our Partner and Sponsor community, registrations will be completely free. However, if you wish to make a donation to Second Harvest (or another charity of your choice), we thank you in advance. Our suggested donation of $29.99 is the value of the ticket for the EQ Awards this year. Again, the event is free, but we will be tracking all donations made by our attendees this year so please consider a donation if you can. Donations over $20.00 will receive a charitable donation receipt for income tax purposes.
If you have any questions about this partnership, please get in touch with me, Sarah Margolius or Adrian Babrikels Munoz.
Please stay tuned over the coming weeks as we share more details about our program. Thank you for your support!
